Of Tunnels, Life & Illusions

The light at the end of the tunnel is not an illusion, the tunnel is.

We parked our vehicle on a tiny street lined with closely spaced homes. We walked along to find a tiny opening between homes. It was this path filled with sand that led to the ocean.

There was no guessing of the expanse to which, that tunnel on Earth opened up. It felt like a magical portal. Especially because we walked through the tunnel before sunrise, so it was dark until we saw some light when out on the other side. The pictures of the tunnel were taken on our way out, so you can see the light coming through the roof made of branches.

This is from our trip to Oahu, Hawaii Islands in February 2021. The experience of being here felt so much like life itself. There is so much intricate and exquisite beauty available that we are actually immersed in when we go through the seeming dark tunnels – light keeps leaking in the form of exact people and guidance pouring from all directions. The sand keeps the feet engaged mindfully (I walked barefoot here), there are occasional pricks to make sure I am present to where I am and also heeding my direction.

Intense times
Life itself
Shapeshifting
Dig my heels
To stay standing
And oriented

Dropping
All things head
Into my heart
So I don’t
Lose myself
In the fluid reality
So I do
Find myself
In the flow easily

Guiding Light
So present for me
In the seeming
Absence of it too
I honor the seeming
Dark spaces

They are actually
Healing forces gathering
Fuel for my

Expansive Being
All that is exactly needed
For ease, joy & well-being

I am amused how this post turned out to be a combination of pictures, a bit of prose and the poem. The poem is what I wanted to post and the rest just tagged along, tugging in my mind to go with the poem. I was happy to see it all seemed to connect well – hope you enjoy this mixture of a post and the poem itself. I am curious to know which part spoke to you most.

  1. There’s really a life-changing piece of truth in your statement that it’s the tunnel that’s the illusion. Something to remember when we’re going through a dark time, that we are in fact surrounded by light, we just can’t see it at the moment.

  2. Such an amazing post! The combination of prose, poetry and pictures turned out really well. The quote at the beginning (the tunnel is the illusion) is the most profound thought Iā€™ve read all day. Such cathartic pictures. Does seem like an exciting place to be!

  4. It has come together so well, Pragalbha – the pictures, the prose and the poem. They amalgamate perfectly to convey your thoughts. And in no small measure, the start with “light at the end of the tunnel” sets the tone of this piece. Superb!

    • Thank you very much for this absolutely valuable positive feedback and appreciation. I lingered quite a bit before hitting publish at the oddity as it felt for how the different pieces of this post came insisting they go together. I had to give in for how it wanted to be šŸ™‚ your comment makes me feel very content about it.

  5. Each tunnel has an opening, we may walk or crawl, it does end to remind us of the beauties around us. Lovely shots Prag and the poem speaks to me the most…dark spaces become their own healing spaces – so true!

    • It is a true joy to me that the poem speaks to you – l was a bit unsure of not giving this poem its own space, and make it a part of this post. You describe back very exactly and beautifully how the experience of tunnel in life is – thank you very much for this happiness šŸ™šŸ¼šŸ’›

  6. “The light at the end of the tunnel is not an illusion, the tunnel is.” I love this! We DO get overwhelmed by what we perceive to be things binding us or constricting us through an experience, but often it is our perception of it and not the reality!

Sometimes we’re married to a particular outcome so strongly that our minds and hearts have difficulty looking at, much less accepting anything new! It is when we open ourselves to other possibilities that those shackles start to dissolve!

That’s been my personal experience going through my own difficulties!

  7. Prag, dare I say what is on my heart and that is the change in you is magnificent! I sit here stunned. I did not expect anything quite like this post and in so doing, my heart just sang! That picture of the tunnel, the first one, wow!! Perfect composition to get the thought behind the picture through. I am just thrilled that your energy is so much freer then the last time we crossed paths. Hawaii is one place on my list I yearn to go and one day I shall! Thank you for sharing your experience and your poem stirred my heart tremendously. Bless you, dear friend, for shining your light as exquisitely as you do!! xo

    • It is so precious special that you ‘see’ me for where I am on my path āœØšŸ˜Š it is amazing how you sense the freedom in my energy even though nothing about this post is absolutely current. Quite a few pieces from since months ago came together asking to be strung together into this post. I was very amused after completing the post, marveling at what just happened. It means a lot to me that you enjoyed the poem too and the picture being appreciated by you is totally another level fulfillment for me. Thank you very much for your loving kind support always šŸ™šŸ¼šŸ’›šŸŒ¹āœØšŸ˜Š

  8. All three speak to me deeply, Pragalbha. The pictures resonate of the beauty of our beautiful Mother; the prose resonates of the light always being there, even when, maybe especially when, mind thinks it is not; and the poem resonates of the beautiful happenings that occur when mind and heart become one. A most beautiful post; feeling grateful and blessed to read you this evening. šŸ’™šŸ™

    • I really liked and appreciate your description of the dark spaces. It becomes so important to Trust while in those places, often so difficult to be there, until the next ray of light – which does come in. Thank you very much for your kind appreciation and thoughtful response.

  10. Love these photos! My partner and I are really keen to go to Hawaii as soon as possible (once Australians are FINALLY allowed to travel internationally). His family all live in Hawaii and it’s been forever since he has seen them in person. One day šŸ™‚
